Elizabeth Diechmann nee Copeland 1860 - 1931
Elizabeth (Lizzie) was born in 1860 at Gorton, Lancashire while her father was employed at the Beyer-Peacock Locomotive works. She moved with her parents to Gottingen in 1864, where her mother died in 1866 shortly after giving birth to her brother Richard. She appears in the 1881 census at Dun Echt at the age of 20. She is referred to in letter 10 from Ralph Copeland to Fred Holloway as Mrs Diechmann.
She married August Diechmann on 23 September 1891 in the German church at Bellevue, Edinburgh. He was a German official who worked in the Inland Revenue Service. They had a daughter who died young of tuberculosis.
She visited the observatory on Blackford Hill on 29 May, 1896 with her daughter and entered her name in the visitor book as Elizabeth Diechmann, from Christiansfeld, Schleswig.
She evidently retained links with her stepmother even after her father's death - being in Bridge of Allan with Agnes and her stepmother when Fanny visited them in 1926 or 7, shortly before Agnes's death.
Elizabeth apparently died in 1931 - the same year as her younger brother, Richard - outliving both her husband and her daughter - and is buried in Germany.
